I don't usually get all gushy over heartfelt news stories, but then there is Ben Breedlove. At 18 years old Breedlove, an Austin resident, had a YouTube Channel (OurAdvice4You) that gave dating advice. Ben also had a heart condition. On December 25th, the night many celebrate Christmas, he suffered a heart attack and passed away. There's a lot of mindless shit on the internet. You can watch videos of almost anyone doing anything. All of that is good, at times it's great, but then there are moments like this. I read a news story about Ben Breedlove and I get to spend a little under 8 minutes getting to know about him and his story. Now, he's gone. These videos, however, remain. I know this isn't the usual nerd-drenched fodder you find here, but spend some time with Ben. Look into his eyes, read his words, see his smile and marvel that you just got to know a little bit about an 18-year-old kid from Austin, Texas gone way too early. Let's all smile with him.

Wake Up & Listen Wednesday: The Roots - 'Undun'

They should be held by our generation for the important storytellers they have become. On Undun, they solidify their place amongst the greats.

Happy Xmas (War is Over)
Well folks, the War in Iraq is over! I know, I know...I remember the "Mission Accomplished" speech too! This time, it's really over. The troops are packing up their shit and getting the hell out of Dodge. There's flag ceremonies, y'all, so it's official.

Wake Up & Listen Wednesday: Childish Gambino
I was born in 1981. My parents were children of the 60's, so I grew up listening to the Beatles, the Stones, the Who; there were the sounds of the Four Tops, Ray Charles, and Otis Redding. It was Free Love, it was Soul Power! I also had a brother who was 9 years older than I. He was my direct line to what was 'cool'. There were a lot of years of metal, but I remember one particular day there was something different. My brother handed me his Walkman. I placed the headphones over my ears and he pressed the play button. Bass drum beats filled my head and then this voice of authority proclaimed...
