Well, Season Two came to quite the end. Lives were lost, revelations were made, barns were burned, and declarations cried; but how about those Walkers?!
In a season that featured very few zombies, the finale cashed in on the make up effects budget BIG time. We knew the horde was coming after Rick's showdown with Shane last week, but the opening of the finale allowed us to retrace the footsteps of said horde. Following the same helicopter Rick saw in Atlanta during Season One, this group of Walkers seem to have followed a very similar path to Sheriff Grimes. The opening of the show was top notch. Lots of zombies, lots of ammo fired, lots of blood splatter and fire! We bid farewell to Herschel's farm (thank the gods!) and the gang sets off to find a new place to call home. Patricia (Mrs. Otis) and Jimmy bite...errr get the bite rather and Andrea gets separated from the gang. Rick, Daryl, Carol, Maggie, Glenn, Beth, Herschel, Lori, Carl, and T Dog reconvene on the highway where they started the Season...and listen to Rick whine. More on that later.
I was so elated when the group FINALLY left the farm, but once the peril and zombies were gone I realized something. After this season, I don't really care about many of these people anymore. I cheered for Rick, I wanted him to put Shane in his place. However, climatic as last weeks standoff was, my reaction was that of "Finally!". I had hoped that the drama between Lori and Rick would die along with Shane. I was wrong.
The last 15 minutes of this episode were tough for me. Rick reveals that CDC Doc Jenner confided in him that they are all infected. Any form of death gives way to reanimation and zombie-dom. The admission lacked any sort of excitement, I think a lot of us saw that coming. It's what happens next when Rick walks away from the group (surprise) and explains the events that led up to him killing Shane that make me want to ram my face into a tree. Lori seems as though she pissed for what Rick has done. I would've put an arrow through her skull. It's not over folks, the drama continues. Lori's more of an infection than the Walking Virus. Oh, and Rick...you should have told the Shane story to EVERYONE. It would've solidified you as a leader and tough guy. The tantrum and declaration of the 'Rick-tatorship' (thanks Chris Hardwicke) was just ridiculous. I know so many were thanking there stars that Rick finally turned on his bad ass, but he didn't. He turned on his bad ass when he killed the two strangers at the bar, THEN he turned off the bad and turned on the DUMB ass when he helped save Randall. Yep, Randall, the guy who almost led to Rick's death.
What pulled me out of the 'Grrr' and into the 'Yessss!' is that Andrea was, in fact, alive. I hated her during the 'gimme a gun' phase, but Andrea has grown so much this season. She went from a suicidal headcase to a mothereffin' survivor. Losing her sister has now fueled her desire to live in the time of The Dead. Her rescue by the mysterious, Walker-accessorizing, figure made me absolutely fanboy-geek-out giddy. COMIC SPOILER ALERT It's Michonne, for you non-readers. She's amazing and you will love her. END COMIC SPOILER ALERT That capped off by the slow rising shot to reveal the prison gave me hope. Season Two was just a means to get to Season Three. It will be awesome.
My hopes for Season Three are that, by splitting Andrea off, the show becomes more dynamic. I look forward to some more maturity from Glen (who was the first at the farm to say 'Hey, let's wait this out!'). I also hope that Rick evens out. I want Carl to grow up a bit and to form a stronger bond with his father. Hopefully (fingers crossed), that happens when/IF Lori meets her end.

When I see "spoliers lie ahead" I assume you mean for the season finale to ward off those who haven't watched yet. I don't expect potential story lines to be spoiled from the comic book. Really disappointing.

Loved your recap and thoughts....and spoilers. I came by your blog through your comment on another one and glad I found it because I was wanting to know who the character was with the 2 walkers strapped to their back that saved Andrea!!!....who I have also grown to like more as the season progressed.
I think Lori got mad at Rick when she found out that her son, Carl, shot Shane and not so much that Shane was dead.
I can't wait for season 3!

Why does everyone hate the farm..? I know it was kinda boring (less walkers) but I thought it was also interesting to see what ppl do day in and day out in a zombie apocalyptic life. I was waiting for the talent shows and farm fair to begin (haha)!
Also don't you think there would'e been a possibility to save the farm with a better idea.. such as setting fire to the primeter of the farm as soon as they see them coming? or something..

I'm with you. I was begging for someone to bite Lori last night and end our viewer suffering. She's a twit. Loved all the zombie action after a season that was a bit of a snoozer.
Question: I've seen two seasons, but haven't read the comics. Will it mess me up now in terms of storyline and plot points to go back and read them? From some articles I've seen, the TV show has veered away from the comics a bit and changed the action/events.
@Jen: you would think so, right? My problem with the Farm was that most of it was not spent peering into anyone else's lives, just Rick/Shane/Lori. That was my problem.
@Barbara: The TV show has veered QUITE a lot. The comics are EXCELLENT, so I highly recommend them. With that, you're going to constantly be making comparisons. Just take them as two separate branches from the same tree.
