Game of Thrones Recap and Review

Season 3, Episode 9 "Rains of Castamere"

Written By: Amanda Lowery

The Red Wedding. For those of us who have read the books – we’ve been anticipating this horrible event all season. For everyone watching the show who heard your book worm friends talk around the ‘thing’ that’s going to happen that changes everything (so as not to spoil it), or perhaps you’ve even heard them call it ‘The Red Wedding’ and in between their knowing nods and solemn faces you gathered that it was going to be bad -- welcome to the land of the know, where Robb Stark and Catelyn Stark are butchered by the Freys at Edmure Tully’s wedding. Just as shocking as Ned Stark’s beheading, but even worse because of what it means.

Game of Thrones Recap and Review

Season Three, Episode Six

"The Climb"

Written By: Amanda Lowery

The morning after the Game of Thrones episode “The Climb” - the scene that came to mind was probably the singularly most disturbing scene. Ros was a character that only existed in the show, but I grew attached to her through all her trials and tribulations (and there were many). So witnessing her awful death at the hands of Joffrey the monster boy king was truly unsettling. That being said - let me begin this recap from the top and work my way to that horrible moment.

Game of Thrones Recap and Review

Season Three, Episode Four
"Now His Watch Has Ended"

Written By: Amanda Lowery

There seems to be a running pattern with each season of Game of Thrones that it takes the season a couple of episodes to really build and establish investment in particular characters and their journeys. I feel like after last night’s episode the audience is now pulled into the inner circle of a show whose multiple story lines are moving quickly and unexpectedly (if you haven’t read the books).

Season Three, Episode Three
"Walk of Punishment"

Last night’s episode of Game of Thrones did indeed include a brute degree of punishment for some characters and for others we see a gaining momentum for anguish to come.

Game of Thrones - Recap and Review

Season 3, Episode 2
"Dark Wings, Dark Words"

Written By Amanda Lowery

I must say, Vanessa Taylor did another great job writing Episode 2 of Season 3 ‘Dark Wings, Dark Words’ which is an echo from the book series. Taylor wrote two episodes last season, “Garden of Bones’ and ‘The Old Gods and the New’.  What I thought was done exceptionally well this week was the juggling of scenes and making each glimpse into a story line important. That is the struggle of the platform for this show – with so many character perspectives it can be difficult to keep up and also to become emotionally invested in any particular story line  Readers of the series are invested in a different way than viewers who have only what is being played out in front of them as viewing material.

We live in a world of remakes. If there's a film  (especially a horror film) that you enjoyed in your younger days, you can be damn sure that Hollywood is going to try to bend it, mold it, and sometimes break it for it's modern movie-going audience. In the case of Evil Dead, keeping the "die hard" fans satisfied may have been it's undoing.

Game of Thrones Season 3 Premiere: "Valar Dohaeris"

Written By Amanda Lowery

So we began last night’s premiere episode in the dark, which we already know is full of terrors aka a whole lot of Walkers. I mean White Walkers, but I’m tuning in on the DVR after the season finale of Walking Dead – so you can appreciate the transition. And then we find Sam, hauling ass in the wight ridden North having another close call with almost certain death before he has to face the fact that he has failed. And because of his inability to send the ravens south to the Wall to let them know an army of White Walkers is headed their way they will be completely unprepared to keep them behind the Wall. The poor Night’s Watch, up there where shit is getting real; the disrespected ancient order of knights who stand as the only thing between the darkness that dwells within Winter and those folks down south playing some game with some thrones.
