THIS JUST IN: Jesse Eisenberg is...LEX LUTHOR?!

Zack Snyder's Man of Steel left many DC/Superman fan's with that woozy, just-been-exposed-to-green-kryptonite feeling. The announcement that the film's follow-up would include Batman left some with hope (Batman and Superman's meeting in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, is much loved). Then came the news that Ben Affleck would don the cape and cowl and the Internet exploded with rage. It wasn't long until Wonder Woman joined the film, and rumors still swirl in regards to Flash and Aquaman. Now, after the Bryan Cranston and Joaquin Phoenix speculation, we have our Lex Luthor.

Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's Superman Vs. Batman. In a press release, Snyder stated,

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”
Personally, I think this is probably the best casting decision thus far. Eisenberg was nominated for his portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. In a fresh, re-imagined Metropolis, I could see Lex being more Zuckerberg-esque.

Oh, and Jeromy Irons was cast as Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennywoth. This film has not even shot a frame and many can barely wait to see it, be it brilliant or bizarre.

Thoughts?
